Matty hears the call. Brilliant guitarist, coder. He sees the opportunity to crush lead for this indy-avant-surf-rock sound and joins up. They play in a charming, if not a bit worn, industrial park on Hancock St. The shed. Motorcycle and surfboard repairs, car repairs, wood workers and bands looping in and out at all hours of the day and night. Humble beginnings. But a sound is beginning and then there’s a chance to bring in some keys, and see, the sea delivers. Enter Mo. Lawd have mercy! The elegant player’s light shines on the boys. Classically trained, Mo delivers a unique and multi-dimensional aural landscape to the sound. When Mo speaks, Lamont listens. One day Quins meets John walking their dogs. At a park overlooking the sea. A magical place. They connect. John bumps into Duz at a coffee shop and is introduced as Quins’s brother. Connection. Music, film, surfing. A year goes by. Duz and John meet by ordained chance at the top of the stairs at the Point before surfing. Hey, John, do you play bass? We started a band and lost our bass player. Sure, man, I play. He really plays guitar but has been fooling around on bass for a couple years. Oh yeah, then Covid. Mo’s out. John’s in. Matt splits for New Orleans.
Where’s this story going?I guess it’s been pointing all the time to a destiny for five guys and a beautiful flautist. Oh let’s introduce, Chloe. A whole other story. She wafts in and out of the music, and when she’s in, it’s magic. So much magic that Matt and Mo re-join and the band is now complete.
The sound is an amalgam of all of Lamont’s cumulative listening and playing over the past 50 years of modern rock and pop music. It comes out through our pores and into yours. It’s cool. It’s energizing. Different, yet familiar. Dance to the music.
